A beautiful oasis on the edge of downtown Holland, Windmill Island Gardens features an original working Dutch windmill named "De Zwaan" (the Swan) brought over from the Netherlands in 1964. The windmill, which reaches 125 feet from the ground to the top of the blades, towers over 36 acres of gardens, dikes, canals, and picnic areas. Lunch is on your own at the Dutch Market where you

will have some free time to shop. Depart for Grand Rapids this afternoon and visit the Gerald R. Ford Presidential Museum OR

Day 3
May 6, 2022

After breakfast this morning, make your way to Charlevoix. Your first stop of the day is Castle Farms with lunch included. Enjoy a walking and tram tour through this unique facility. Your tour guide will delight your group with the rich history of Castle Farms, from its original construction 1918 as the Loeb Farm, to the Van Haver art studio and gallery period, as well as the music concert era, and through the extensive restoration process from 2001 to present. The completed buildings and landscaped gardens are breathtaking. Next, meet your guide for a tour of Charlevoix. A local guide will show you the

architectural diversity of this lovely city. Highlighted are the more than thirty homes designed by local architect Earl Young. Dating from 1921 to the 1950's, these unique, “mushroom houses” are built out of native stone and sport cedar shake roofs. Now it's time to depart for Mackinaw City. Ferry over to Mackinac Island. As you step upon the island you will feel like you have stepped back in time. Horse drawn vehicles transport everything from supplies for the business on the island to passengers. Motorized vehicles are not allowed. The evening is free for you to explore this unique island at your leisure. Be sure to taste some of the famous Mackinac Island fudge. Overnight at the Lake View Hotel. (B,L) Option to upgrade to the Grand Hotel.

Day 4
May 7, 2022

The day begins with a tour of the Island. For anyone who has seen the movie “Somewhere in Time” there will be moments of déjà vu as a horse drawn taxi will meet you for a tour of the island. The tour ends at the Grand Hotel with its fabulous buffet. Following lunch take some time to relax on the hotel’s 660 foot porch. Wander down Main Street and visit some of Mackinac Island’s unique shops. This afternoon is yours to spend at your leisure. Overnight at the Lake View Hotel. (L)

Day 5
May 8, 2022

Your morning is free to spend a little time exploring the island before we return to the mainland. Meet your guide for a fascinating ride across the Mighty Mackinac Bridge. At one time, this was the longest suspension bridge in the world.

Hear the dramatic tales of the brave iron workers who built this massive structure. Your guide will provide more than hearsay – in many cases these are eyewitness accounts of local history. A stop will be made at 40 Mile Point Lighthouse. Located just north of Rogers City, the lighthouse was built in 1896 to assist ships through the dangerous shoreline where open water, hidden shoals and false bays had claimed many vessels. Make your way to Thunder Bay resort and this evening step back in time as you board a horse drawn carriage that takes you over the Thunder Bay River and into the woods at Thunder Bay Resort. Enjoy the scenery, the smell of pine, and the ever-changing face of the Thunder Bay River as the horses make their way deep in the woods to the beautiful Elk Antler Log Cabin. Warm yourself by the fire and savor the delicious aromas put forth by the twin antique wood cook stoves as culinary artist Spenser James and his staff prepare your gourmet meal. Throughout your dinner, sample from nearby wineries as attentive servers see to your every need. Overnight at the Thunder Bay Resort. (D)

Day 6
May 9, 2022

A hot breakfast is included at the Clubhouse Grill. Arrive at the USS Edson in Bay City. The USS Edson (DD-946) was a Forrest Sherman-class destroyer of the United States Navy, during the Vietnam Era. Initially she served in the Western Pacific/Far East, operating particularly in the Taiwan Strait and off the coast of Vietnam. She was decommissioned in 1988, and the following year became a museum ship at the Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum in New York before moving to Bay City in 2012. Hop back on the bus as we head to Frankenmuth. Time will be allowed to explore the many shops lining Main Street. Before dinner, take time to visit the 50-foot Glockenspiel Tower. It houses a magnificent 35-bell carillon, beautiful figurine movement and an illuminated clock, all imported from Germany! Dinner is included at The Bavarian Inn Restaurant. Overnight at Fairfield Inn. (B,D)
