Among the props and costumes are the toys from the Higbee’s window, Randy’s snowsuit, the chalkboard from Miss Shields’ classroom and the family car. After lunch, arrive at Tara—A Country Inn. Inspired by the greatest movie of our time, Gone With the Wind, Tara recreated is in a real sense an embodiment of the Old South. Tara offers you a lasting impression of Southern Hospitality and a chance to enjoy the luxuries of days gone by. After our tour sip & savor afternoon tea, check in to your elegant room and in the evening, have a family style dinner—all at Tara! (L,D)

Day 2
July 14, 2021

After breakfast at the hotel, travel to Sharon, PA. Visit the Buhl Mansion for a tour this afternoon. The Buhl Mansion is the architectural legacy of Sharon’s great steel magnate, Frank H. Buhl. After graduating from Yale and associating with tycoons like Carnegie and Rockefeller, Frank came to the Sharon area where he met and fell in love with Julia Forker. At the request of his mother, Frank built a “castle” for his beautiful bride. Construction on the mansion began in 1890 and was completed in 1896 . After Frank and Julia passed away, the property changed hands many times and was stripped of many of its spectacular architectural features including all the staircases, chandeliers, many door and window casings and all but four fireplace mantles. After years of abandonment and neglect, Jim and Donna Winner lovingly restored Julia’s “castle” to its original grandeur for all to enjoy. Next stop is The Avenue of 444 Flags—a symbol of endurance and persistence that lead to the release of the Iranian hostages. The flags continue to fly as a tribute to all veterans and a re-minder that freedom isn’t free. Return to Tara for afternoon tea and then later this evening, dinner. (B, D)

Day 3
July 15, 2021

This morning have breakfast at Tara and check out. Our first stop of the day is Apple Castle to learn more about the farm, and to take some time for shopping and donuts. Few farms have the longevity and tradition of Apple Castle, a family orchard that has been growing apples for over 150 years. Six generations of the Johnston family have dedicated their lives to growing apples and the lifestyle that goes with it, and as a seventh generation appears on the scene, the family shows no signs of slowing. Our second stop of the day is the Cheese House, a small, family owned business established in 1974. With over 100 types of domestic and imported cheeses, The Cheese House takes pride in being one of the largest cheese and specialty foods stores in Western Pennsylvania. Despite the name, they are much more than just cheese! Their products range from foods from around the world, puzzles, gifts, pickled goods, jams and jellies, beef jerkies, popcorn, lotions, soaps, wind chimes, and more. Next, spend some time in Volant. Volant is a unique village of quaint shops, restaurants, and wineries. Enjoy shopping on an old-fashioned main street nestled in the rolling hills of scenic western Pennsylvania Amish country. It’s now time to make our way home. Stop for a mid-afternoon fast food meal and continue toward home. (B)
