How do I register for a tour?

Fill out the registration form on the flyer and send it in with your payment. We offer $25 non-refundable deposits on most one-day tours to save your seat. Many multi-day trips allow designated deposits at the time of registration. Please look on the reservation form on your flyer for deposit/payment amounts and due dates. If you have not paid in full for the trip before the final due date, your name will be taken off of the list. We accept cash, check, or credit cards (subject to a 2% service fee). To avoid disappointments please make reservations early. All trips are on a first-come first served basis.

Where will I be picked up for my tour?

The pick-up locations for each trip are listed on its flyer. We do our best to ensure that our clients do not have to travel far to get to a pickup point. We also take special care to make sure that your vehicle will be left in a safe, public location while you are on our trip. Most of our pickup locations are in Allen Park, Southgate, Brownstown, Woodhaven, Canton, and Novi. Departure locations are subject to change so please review the itinerary that is sent to you prior to the tour.

How many people will be on my trip?

We usually have between 35-55 passengers on most one-day trips. Multi-day trips range from 20-45 passengers. We always take special care to ensure that all of our passengers get an exciting and first-class experience, no matter how many people are on the trip!

How/when will I get my itinerary?

One Day Tours: Custom Holidays will send you a detailed itinerary for your trip one week before the trip date. Passengers can expect to receive an email with your pickup location/time, information about the trip, as well as the drop-off location/time. Your pickup location will be the same as your drop-off location unless noted otherwise. If we do not have an email address for you, we will give you your itinerary via telephone call. *Times on flyers are always approximate*

Multi Day Tours: Custom Holidays will send you a trip overview via USPS approximately 3 weeks before your trip with details such as lodging information, departure location/time, menu choices (if needed), and luggage tags if appropriate. It also includes packing tips, gratuity information and tips for a pleasant ride.

What if I need to cancel?

If you need to cancel your tour, please refer to the cancellation deadlines and fees listed on your tour flyer. Every tour requires a non-refundable deposit, which is retained if you cancel. For cancellations after the listed deadline, additional penalties may apply. You’re welcome to find a substitute to take your place at any time with no penalty. If you’re going on a multi-day tour, we highly recommend purchasing travel protection to help cover specific circumstances like medical emergencies. For details on travel protection coverage, see the link on your registration form or on our website. Travel protection is due with the deposit.

What if I have special dietary requirements or mobility limitations?

We accommodate dietary needs as best as possible and work with our meal providers to ensure options are available. We can request certain things like aisle seats at theatres or walk-in showers at hotels, but those are never guaranteed. Please make a note of any restrictions or requirements on your tour reservation form. We most likely cannot accommodate any requests that are made after the final payment deadline.

What is your tipping policy?

Gratuities for meals are always included in your tour package. We typically recommend a small tip for guides and drivers if you’re satisfied with their service for one day tours. Specific tipping recommendations are provided in the tour details for multi-day tours. We recommend bringing cash for tipping local step-on-guides, housekeeping at hotels, as well as your driver and guide.

How active are the tours, and will there be a lot of walking?

Our tours are designed with active seniors in mind and offer a range of activity levels to suit various needs. Each tour flyer includes an activity level rating from 1 to 5, so you’ll know what to expect before booking. While some walking is typically required, we include regular rest stops and offer lighter activity options for those who prefer a more relaxed pace. You will need to be able to get on and off of the coach (usually 4-5 steps).

What if I don’t have a travel partner? Can I still join?

Absolutely! Many of our travelers join solo, and our tours are a great way to make connections and enjoy camaraderie with others who share your interests. For our overnight tours, if you’re looking to share a room, just let us know—we’ll do our best to match you with a roommate. Whether you come alone or with friends, you’ll find a warm, welcoming atmosphere.

How do I find out about new tours?

Sign up for our seasonal newsletter—we’ll mail OR email it to you. Choose email and receive a $5 coupon! You can also subscribe to our weekly emails for new tour announcements. Follow us on Facebook for updates and to see photos from recent tours.

Tourism is about respecting people, places, and cultures

Tourism is about mutual understanding and respect between peoples and societies. The resources involved in tourism belong to the common heritage of human beings, and we have a duty to protect these vulnerable resources for future generations.

RESPECTING PEOPLE

Travelers are expected to respect others. This includes other travelers, Custom Holidays staff, third-party service providers, and the local people and cultures in the destinations they visit.

When travelling, keep the following in mind:

  • Be aware of your own cultural values, biases, and how they impact your judgment of others.
  • You do not have to agree with the opinions or beliefs of others but you must be respectful of them.
  • Please use headphones when listening to personal media during travel.
  • Do not use speakerphone when making personal phone calls in public or during travel.
  • Be on time for departures.
  • Bring your “Happy” attitude and remain flexible. Oftentimes, there are things that change or don’t go according to plan – especially in travel.
  • Respect the guide and driver and follow their instructions.
  • Be polite to servers, ushers and other service personnel.

Custom Holidays works hard to create tours that a diverse group of people will enjoy. If your experience is less than satisfactory, please discuss it with the guide at the appropriate time during the tour. Many times, the guide can correct a situation.

To maintain a positive travel experience for all, travelers are expected to adhere to these guidelines. Custom Holidays reserves the right to decline future travel to anyone who fails to meet these standards of respectful behavior, as required to protect the safety and enjoyment of all participants.
